The Stony Plain Golf Course is a municipally operated 18-hole championship golf course facility located in the heart of Stony Plain, Alberta.  As one of Alberta’s hidden gems, the course features undulating fairways, subtly contoured greens, aggressive bunkering and places a premium on thoughtful shot execution.  In order to accommodate the ultimate buildout of Briarwood Way (which links the communities of Graybriar with Fairway Drive), multiple design adjustments to the existing golf hole were required.  As a result, the Town of Stony Plain commissioned Ohnysty Crough Golf Design to undertake the golf course architecture and construction shaping components of the work. 

As part of the ultimate buildout of the roadway the existing pedestrian/golfer crossing was relocated, resulting in the existing cart path becoming obsolete.  To align with the new crossing, and effectively circulate golfers between #6 green and #7 tee, the design team proposed rerouting the cart path to the right side of the green, and removing a greenside bunker to provide additional access/egress area.  

The design team also proposed multiple improvements aimed at enhancing the interest and variety of the short par 4 golf hole. This included the relocation of an existing fairway bunker into a strategic location to promote decision making and multiple shot options, the removal of one greenside bunker, the re-contouring of the green surrounds and various drainage improvements.   The result is a short "risk/reward' par 4 that is sure to test the decision making and ability of golfers of all skill level.
